This is just what it appears to be, a good country pub of the old type, with no background music, no fruit machines and no noisy children - just good food and drink for the visiting customer.
Situated near to Hoghton Tower on the Preston to Blackburn road, it can be reached easily from the M65 and is a haven of rest for the weary traveller. The food is unpretentious and well produced, from a quite wide ranging menu - and portions are large.
The interior matches the exterior of this pub, with real fires, comfy seats and even a selection of magazines and newspapers to make you feel at home. The staff are friendly and efficient, and although the pub is several miles from a large town it has a large number of regular customers.
In short it's the sort of place worth driving a few extra miles to reach, so it's no surprise that car parking behind the pub or just a little past it is ample for many vehicles and is often full. If you are in the area and want an uncomplicated meal of good quality or a drink of real ale in proper pub surroundings this is the place to be.
